Cuba Denies Castro Has Cancer

One high ranking official told TIME, "The United States Intelligence Services have been wrong for more than 47 years in their predictions not only in relation to the health of the Cuban President but also in all aspects regarding our country."

TIME magazine reports that Cuban President Fidel Castro is dying of terminal cancer, quoting U.S. Intelligence sources.

The Cuban government has denied that Castro has terminal cancer. “The United States Intelligence Services have been wrong for more than 47 years in their predictions not only in relation to the health of the Cuban President but also in all aspects regarding our country,” a Cuban official told TIME, the magazine reports.

The official told the magazine Castro’s July 31 statement was the only definitive assessment of his. Castro then said the surgery and treatment for intestinal bleeding “obliges me to spend several weeks in repose, away from my responsibilities and duties.”

Cuban official have always said Castro will return to power when he recovers. “We will again have him leading the revolution,” Foreign Minister Felipe Pérez Roque said, recently.
