Please go see “Renaissance in the Belly of the Killer Whale.” I saw this play on preview many weeks ago. It’s informative, it’s funny, it’s delightful, it’s saddening, and at the end also empowering.

It’s a story about Harlem gentrification as told by the devoured and almost-devoured; from inside the belly of the Whale, with humor,  with appropriate sarcasm, with sadness, but also with the triumphant defiance that has always allowed Harlemites to survive everything.

Through poetry, dance, song and theatre, it explores the complex and evolving love affair three young women have with their ever-changing home neighborhood, the world famous village of Harlem.
