Is Andrew Young Crazy?

[The Big Story]

New York City Council Member Charles Barron has denounced remarks attributed to former Atlanta mayor and civil rights leader Andrew Young, disparaging Senator Barack Obama and insulting African American women.

Barron will hold a news conference December 12 on the steps of City Hall at 12 noon to demand that Young apologize, The Black Star News has learned.

Young, who is a leading figure in the Civil Rights Movement, worked with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and served as the former Mayor of Atlanta.

According to a December 10th article in The New York Post, Young, who in recent weeks have come out against Obama, while referring to former President Bill Clinton said, “Bill is every bit as black as Barack. He’s probably gone with more black women than Barack, although he added, 'I’m clowning.'"

Young is also reported to have stated, “I want Barack Obama to be president,” pausing for applause before adding “in 2016. It's not a matter of being inexperienced, it’s a matter of being young.”

“The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King must be turning in his grave," Barron told The Black Star News. "Mr. Andrew Young must be out of his mind. Yes he has a long history as a civil rights leader, but that does not give him the license to insult the entire Black community, Black women and the only Black presidential candidate, Barack Obama. Mr. Young should be ashamed of himself and we are demanding that he publicly apologize. In regards to his comment about Barack Obama’s age, perhaps I should remind Mr. Young that Dr. King was in his late twenties when he took the helm of this country’s civil rights movement and Andrew Young himself was young when he first emerged as a leader."
