[Our Model Of The Day]

Where She’s From:
Shanice Bryant was born in Newark, New Jersey and moved to East Orange when she was 14. “Both my parents were in my life growing up and they both remain in my life now,” she tells The Black Star News. “My mom taught me to believe in myself. She always pushed me toward my dreams. My dad taught me that family is important no matter what.”

Shanice went to Arts High School in Newark for performing arts and continued at East Orange High School after which she earned a diploma from Bernie L. Edmonson Center and began classed at University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey (UMDNJ) to become a nurses’ assistant.

Where She’s At: “I model part time and work full time as a management assistant program coordinator,” the beautiful Shanice adds. “My modeling is starting to take off and I’m going to be signing with an agency soon. Modeling is going to take me where I’m supposed to be. Only God knows the answer to that.”

“In this industry everybody wants to be somebody,” Shanice cautions. “You have to know the real from the fake. Models, photographers, editors of magazines, promoters and list goes on.”

“It’s important to get people to see past a cute face and thin waist,” she adds. “You’re more sexy if you have brains and know the business. Always ask questions so that you know what your getting into. Many models don’t read paperwork; They sign contracts then ask questions. This industry will chew you up and spit you out.”

So how does this upcoming model prepare to step out? “My favorite brands are G-unit, Hollister, bib, Bebe, Coach, Seven, Express and Guess Marciani collection. As for lotions I use a skin moisturizer called Cerave. I can’t use those scented lotions. Perfume, I wear Gucci pink and Paris Hilton’s self titled perfume.”

A Short Shanice Story: “I got off work at 5PM and had all my things packed the night before. I booked three photo shoots and the first one was to take place as soon as I got to Philly which was about 7:30 PM that same evening. I called the photographer to tell him I was in town and on my way. I get there, open my trunk, only to find a bag of shoes. I had left the bag with my clothes on my bed. I was so upset. But it was so funny because I love shoes and that’s all I was thinking about. I had to cancel my shoot and drive all the way back to get my bag.”
