Madagascar: Away With The Rascal

Perhaps Ravalomanana planned it that way; for the rascal to step into his shoes and show to the entire world that he can’t fill them.
Hopefully, Rajoelina will come to his senses and step aside; else be escorted away by soldiers who want to restore honor to the
military and democracy to the people of Madagascar.

We said previously that stealing Democracy is not like snatching a loaf of bread and running off with it.

You can own the bread and do what you will with it. You can even eat it after the owner demands for its return.

Not so with democracy. The power belongs to the people by virtue of their individual votes. The mayor of Antananarivo, Andry Rajoelina, who is now the world’s most infamous crook, is learning the hard way.

Much of the international community has told him to leave state house with the mutineers in the army that supported
him and return to City Hall. The people who voted for the deposed president have taken to the streets in the tens of thousands, also asking Rajoelina to return power to the people.

The mayor is not as popular and not as loved as he thought he was. This is not a good discovery. The longer he stays, the more he stains the reputation of Madagascar, and invites potential for more violence on the streets.

The legitimate president, Marc Ravalomanana, who was elected and had two years left in his term demonstrated statesmanship. He resigned and left peacefully, not wanting bloodshed on the streets.

The thug, Rajoelina, stepped into State House and declared himself president, as if anyone who opposed a fairly elected president could just move in with his own furniture and declare himself the leader. There is a word for that; coup d’état.

The thug Rajoelina is learning that it’s not that simple. Africa is moving away from the bad old days.

Why do we care about Madagascar? It’s the principle of democracy; voters in Madagascar have a right to be governed by the man they voted for just as Americans here deserve the same. And, in an age when a Black man can show the world a brilliant example by using his intellect to get elected president of the world’s number one industrial power, what right does the thug Rajoelina have to take Africa back to the 1960s?

Perhaps Ravalomanana planned it that way; for the rascal to step into his shoes and show to the entire world that he can’t fill them. Hopefully, Rajoelina will come to his senses and step aside; else be escorted away by soldiers who want to restore honor to the military and democracy to the people of Madagascar.
