Michael Jackson, Gone Too Soon

You’re gone too soon Michael. I do not exaggerate when I say that my heart is in pain. “Born to amuse,” he sings, “to inspire, to delight; here one day, gone one night. Like a sunset dying with the rising moon, gone too soon.” You are gone too soon Michael. Your legend lives on.

[Michael Jackson Tribute]

Thursday June 25th 2009 is a day the world will remember with a great sadness.

The sudden and tragic demise of one who soared so high from the most humble of beginnings and yet died so low has left us all in shock.

Although I am not a die-hard fan of Michael Jackson, there is no denying that he was the greatest entertainer of all time and now he is gone. It is almost unimaginable that we will never again be graced with such riveting and exciting performances from this musical genius.

Why are we so affected by the death of Michael Jackson? After all, people die in this world everyday; be it from war, natural causes, disease, accidents, suicides and murder.  Death is a part of life. It is unfathomable and for most fearful—but a certainty that our lives on this earth will come to an end.

Having said that, it is not difficult at all to understand the outpouring of grief, sadness and tears because Michael Jackson was an international icon.

You almost feel through his music, that you knew him. His music transcended race, gender, age, and religion. Although his performances were electrifying, Michael Jackson the man appeared to be humble, lost and deeply troubled. Always longing for a childhood he never had, hence Neverland!

He was always searching for love and validation and surrounded himself with children in a vain attempt to try and live his childhood in mid life.

There will be a lot said about Michael Jackson in the aftermath of his death. Some will say he was a pervert and pedophile—others will refer to a Peter Pan.  I am inclined to say Peter Pan, and this is just my opinion. Some will say wacko; I am inclined to say eccentric.

It appears that he will be even more famous in death.

Already emerging are several conspiracy theories as to the cause of death ranging from: a lethal overdose of a narcotic injection; stress due to the proposed 50-concert series; too much grapefruit juice which somehow reacted with the many cocktail of drugs in his system; or, foul play.

I am surprised it has not been suggested that perhaps he staged his own death so he could go out with a bang. Author of his own destiny.

How does a family grieve a beloved one amid all these speculations?  My prayers go to the Jackson family and may they take comfort in the knowledge that their Michael was so loved the world over.

I’m listening to “Gone Too Soon” as I write.

Poignant and heart wrenching.  I do not exaggerate when I say that my heart is in pain.  “Born to amuse,” he sings, “to inspire, to delight; here one day, gone one night. Like a sunset dying with the rising moon, gone too soon.”

You are gone too soon Michael. Your legend lives on.
Surreal.
