Morrison Empowers NYCHA Residents

“Ever wonder why some people seem to get all the breaks; a good job, great family, wonderful friends and are happy all the time?

On Thursday, May 31, 2007, Andrew Morrison, President of Small Business Camp, kicked off of his “Secrets to Business Success NYC Housing Tour” – a series of workshops that teaches underserved communities how to start and grow a business in 90 days. The purpose of Morrison’s crusade is to expose financially challenged communities to alternative choices, helping them to emerge from impoverished lifestyles.  “Ever wonder why some people seem to get all the breaks; a good job, great family, wonderful friends and are happy all the time?  The secret to their success is the choices they have made in their lives,” Morrison says.

The powerful event took place at the Mott Haven Community Center located at 375 East 143rd Street in the Bronx, the first stop on Morrison’s NYCHA Tour which will extend throughout various New York City Housing Authority developments throughout the City over the next few months.

The event enthralled everyone who attended as Morrison engaged with the audience, selecting individuals and asking what type of business they are in or would like to start. Happily obliging, people shared such aspirations as Gift Basket Business, Beauty Supply Retail Store, Men’s Designer Clothes, Event Planning and more.  Morrison provided an arsenal of information for those in attendance on how to start the business of their dreams in 90 days for less than $500.

A raffle was held where winners received Morrison’s book, “21 Questions That Will Build Your Business in 90 Days” and his CD entitled, “27 Ways to Grow Any Business in 90 Days.”  Every attendee received Morrison’s booklet containing a list of 40 business choices.

“Here is a chance for City Housing Residents to choose to thrive over choosing to just survive,” stated Morrison.

Morrison’s training comes with an additional three months of coaching.  Andrew Morrison’s “Secrets to Business Success” workshop got rave reviews from all who attended.

New York City Housing Authority Developments are inhabited by a cross section of low and moderate income people, who need the additional income a small business can provide.  As of January 1, 2007, the average family income in Conventional Public Housing is $20,894; average monthly rent is $336.  Working families account for 44.2% of NYCHA families, 15.8% of NYCHA families receive public assistance and 38.7% of the NYCHA population is minors under 21 and 32.2% are minors under 18.
