Newt Gingrich: Master Con Man, On The Rise

Instead of the calculating, race-baiting, lecherous hypocrite that he really is, Gingrich was able to remake his image: Now he is just a pudgy, horny old man who just wants to do right by America if people can forgive and look beyond his past transgressions.

Is Romney about to be Gingriched?

If Newt Gingrich wins in South Carolina and becomes the comeback kid he can thank CNN’s John King and the robotic Mitt Romney.

Gingrich’s momentum could then help him in Florida and Nevada as well.

The debates this week catapulted Gingrich. It didn’t help that Romney is a robotic candidate who can’t think fast on his feet if he has to stray from the script. When Gingrich came out roaring in the second debate Romney had no script to work with.

Gingrich had already established his bonafides as a first class racist by, as one supporter later said, putting Fox’s Juan Williams an African American journalist “in his place” when he admonished Williams for daring to question whether he had insulted Black folk by suggesting they preferred welfare to paychecks.

Now, about the lunch for John King lunch.

Gingrich’s second and now ex-wife, Marianne, alleged in a CBS interview that the former Speaker urged her to agree to transform their marriage into an “open marriage” so he could continue cheating with his then love interest Callista.

Marianne says she refused so Gingrich threw her out the window to marry the younger woman, Callista. The ex-Mrs. Gingrich claims Gingrich complained about her supposed selfishness. “Yes, but you want me all to yourself; Callista doesn’t care what I do,” Gingrich supposedly told Marianne. He also told her that Callista –she was younger and presumably Gingrich found her more attractive– would help him become president.

Marianne’s claims were legitimate issues to bring up in a presidential debate.  Gingrich lectures everyone else about the virtues of morality and the sanctity of family. He evidently doesn’t practice what he preaches. He epitomizes hypocrisy.

John King’s mistake was posing Marianne’s claims as the first question in the presidential debate; he fell into a trap. It was almost as if Gingrich had planted the question.

Gingrich was able to instantly elevate himself into the position of a martyr. He threw the question right back at John  King. How dare you bring up such salacious allegations –even if true– as the first question in a presidential debate with millions of Americans still unemployed?

By turning John King, CNN, CBS, liberals and President Obama into the culprits, Gingrich didn’t even have to deal with the credibility of his ex-wife’s claims. Without having to deal with what Marianne told CBS, Gingrich no longer had to address his own obnoxious hypocrisy — preaching the virtues of morality to Black folk while dipping here, there and everywhere.

Gingrich also knew how his response would be heard around the nation. He wasn’t really speaking to John King at all. He was killing three birds with one stone:

1) Gingrich embarrassed John King and made him and CNN look petty. He made it appear as if King and CNN were out to undermine him and all other Republican candidates in order to benefit liberals and their favored candidate, President Obama.

At the same time, Gingrich also calculated that other journalists who wanted to pursue the ex-wife line of questioning wouldn’t dare after witnessing how he’d decimated John King. Rest assured that many reporters –and many are indeed timid– will think twice before asking Gingrich any potentially embarrassing questions from now on.

2) Gingrich was also able to chill-freeze his own opponents on the stage. It worked to perfection and Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Ron Paul all skirted around the issue thereafter.

3) Gingrich was also speaking to voters in the other primary election states and beyond. He was daring viewers: Is there any man or woman out there who doesn’t have painful and embarrassing personal family stories?

Instead of the calculating, race-baiting, lecherous hypocrite that he really is, Gingrich was able to remake his image: Now he is just a harmless, pudgy, horny old man who just wants to do right by America if people can forgive and look beyond his past transgressions.

Gingrich may be good enough for South Carolina today.

Let’s see how long he fools the rest of the nation and how far Gingrich’s con takes him.
