Open Letter To Lt. Gov. Paterson

As you also know, BUFNY, the once flourishing and most authentic model of a Black self-help organization in the country, now has its former space at 2271 Adam Clayton Blvd., Harlem, New York, gutted and prepped to house a bar with restaurant an embarrassing replacement for such a pioneering institution that no one saw fit to protect.

Dear Lt.Gov. Paterson:

As you know, the Black United Fund of New York has been completely silenced and destroyed by the former Attorney General, now Governor of the State of New York, Eliot Spitzer.

Adding insult to injury, the treatment of Mr. Larry Barton and myself has been quite callous. We have been trying for over three and one half years to get our personal belongings out of the former BUFNY offices, to no avail.

We have contacted the board on numerous occasions and have also reached out to the current owner. In spite of our efforts, to date, we have not been allowed to retrieve twenty-five years of personal items which include clothing, plaques, photos, CDs, DVDs, records, tapes, electronics, family furniture, personal logs, and financial records for IRS, state and local tax filings.

As you also know, the once flourishing and most authentic model of a Black self-help organization in the country, now has its former space at 2271 Adam Clayton  Blvd., Harlem, New York, gutted and prepped to house a bar with restaurant an embarrassing replacement for such a pioneering institution  that no one saw fit to protect.

With the above in mind, we  would appreciate a meeting with you to discuss retrieving our belongings. We need to have this meeting as soon as possible, to prevent our personal items  from being discarded.
Thank you for adhering to this request.
