It’s what connects us with old friends and new ones alike, we use it to break up to make up and take up. It can start a revolution and yet end wars or just make us feel good.

No, it’s not Facebook or Twitter we’re talking Music. This June 16th, Abstract Entertainment presents Pan Jazz 2012’s production of Music – The Original Social Media. Music is indeed the original social media and we once again celebrate it’s hypnotic unifying grip that transcends time and borders with the stylings of the simply electrifying Caribbean Queen Alison Hinds and the thought elevating rebel sounds of Thandiswa Mazwai backed by an All-Star band.

The eighth annual presentation will take place Saturday, June 16 at Frederick P. Rose Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center, 60th & Broadway, New York City commencing at  7:00 PM. Returning off of last year’s exciting collaboration with Legendary Trumpeter Hugh Masekela on  the steel pans will be Victor Provost and Leon Foster Thomas.

Also returning this year from Saint Lucia their famed guitarist Ronald “Boo” Hinskon. Appearing for the first time with Pan Jazz South African Bassist Bikith Kumalo and the Multi-Faceted Mino Cinelo. Also returning from Suriname Etienne Stadwick and many more.  Musical arrangements will be lead by Pan Jazz veteran Etienne Charles whose growing musical popularity continues globally.

The creation of this year’s concept led by Darryl Ramsey (Creative Director) will take you on the journey exploring the very fabric of this social medium, “Music.” Former Miss Universe and current Pan Jazz Ambassador Wendy Fitzwilliam will host the event.

As Pan Jazz continue to captivate its audiences yearly with new concepts it has not strayed away from its key mission to provide Caribbean Artist a creative outlet in a high end setting that explores the unexplored.  “We are excited about working with Alison Hinds” as this very talented entertainer whom I have enjoyed at many carnival fetes will now showcase one of her many dimensions in this Pan Jazz setting,” says Ralph Ramsey,” more over a chance to work with Thandiswa Mazwai whom if you listened and absorbed her music Miriam Makeba / Rita Marley comes to mind.” This year’s production is being dedicated to Ralph MacDonald, Grammy award winning percussionist, songwriter and producer.
