[Passings]

It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of one of our founders and past president, J. Bruce Llewellyn. He passed away yesterday at the age of 82. He played a pivotal role in our path of influence and success, and will be sorely missed.

Born in Harlem, Llewellyn graduated from City College of New York, and earned graduate degrees from the Columbia Graduate School of Business and the New York University School of Public Administration. He later went on to receive a law degree from New York Law School.

Llewellyn was the quintessential entrepreneur, with business interests that spanned the globe. He was a man of countless extraordinary accomplishments. In 1983, Llewellyn teamed up with legendary 76ers star Julius “Dr. J” Erving and entertainer and fellow One Hundred Black Men, Inc. member Bill Cosby to buy a local Coca-Cola Bottling company in Philadelphia.

Llewellyn was a World War II Army veteran who attained the rank of first lieutenant.

He is survived by his wife, Shahara Ahmad-Llewellyn, three daughters, Kristen, Alexandra Marie and Lisa and a host of family, friends and colleagues.
