Publisher’s Commentary; Why McCain Must Worry

In all these areas involving U.S. global interests, Obama’s wisdom trumped McCain’s “experience.” Now, by adding Biden to the team, any remaining reservations on the part of voters about Obama’s lack of experience will now be eliminated.

The selection has been made and it’s Senator Joe Biden, not Senator Hillary Clinton.

Now it’s on to the White House.

Obama will beat John McCain once the air clears after each party’s Convention in the next two weeks and the campaign starts in earnest in September.

In the last few weeks Obama had already obliterated any perceived advantages McCain had in foreign affairs when all of Obama’s astute observations about Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan and Afghanistan were all vindicated.

Obama was one of the first politicians to call for dialogue with North Korea and Iran over those countries’ nuclear energy policies. Even though McCain derided Obama’s position, it was embraced by President George Bush, whose diplomats negotiated a deal to dismantle reactors with North Korea, and then met with Iranian officials, in Switzerland.

With respect to Pakistan, Senator Obama criticized the Republican Administration of George Bush for laying all the U.S. foreign policy eggs in one basket; that of dictator Pervez Musharaff. The wisdom of that observation is resounding vindicated–Musharaff’s regime has collapsed and Pakistan now verges on mayhem and the Taliban gains clout in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In Afghanistan, the true epicenter of Taliban global disruption, Obama long ago called for beefed up U.S. resources, arguing that Iraq was the wrong theater of action–a very costly diversion. Taliban has re-armed and retrained and again Obama’s position is vindicated.

In Iraq, the Bush Administration has now concluded a deal with the government there for U.S. troop withdrawals in a timetable that’s similar to Obama’s; earlier Iraq prime mister Nouri Kamal al-Maliki already had endorsed Obama’s 16 months responsible withdrawal program.

In all these areas involving U.S. global interests, Obama’s wisdom trumped McCain’s “experience.”

Now, by adding Biden to the team, any remaining reservations on the part of voters about Obama’s lack of experience will now be eliminated.

On domestic issues, McCain has nothing.

This means Obama can now endure any other foolish commercials from Senator McCain such as the Paris Hilton ad and just focus on the issues: No amount of “experience” by McCain can wish away the $500 billion deficit; the recent loss of 500,000 jobs; the mortgage meltdown and millions of foreclosures; the collapse of the credit market; the migration of U.S. corporations to foreign countries; and, the loss of U.S. credibility abroad.

Moreover, Biden will be able to attract many of the white male voters and working class voters that Obama has had some difficulty with. Biden is also a brilliant debater and has a sharp tongue; look for him to paralyze McCain and his cohorts with zingers.

Now it’s up to Hillary Clinton to deliver her supporters; especially her female supporters.

She needs to remind them that it’s in the interest of every woman that Roe V. Wade be preserved; that a man who does not know how many homes he owns cannot be entrusted with the task of resolving the foreclosures nightmare; and, that it’s in the interest of every American that the Iraq war be ended now, and not in 100 years as McCain has suggested.

Then Obama and Biden can close the deal.
