Rick Santorum, Apostle of Hate, Gets His 15 Minutes in Iowa

Santorum’s comparison of today’s USA to Benito Mussolini’s Italy is beyond idiotic and insults the memory of Mussolini’s millions of victims in Europe and in Africa.

Rick Santorum has been playing the religious fundamentalist card and the race card to secure a top-tier finish in Iowa.

He claims that Barack Obama is turning the United States into a fascist country, like the Italy that his grandfather fled.

Not a single one of the so-called “pundits” on CNN called him out on the comparison tonight.

Santorum’s comparison of today’s USA to Benito Mussolini’s Italy is beyond idiotic and insults the memory of Mussolini’s millions of victims in Europe and in Africa.

Early this morning, Santorum  said during his Iowa “victory” speech that his grandfather had fled fascist Italy and come to the United States where he worked hard in the mines until he was 72 years old.

Now, Santorum, playing the race card, says President Obama is creating a medicaid and food-stamps nation.  This was “exactly what my grandfather left in 1925” Santorum claimed, this morning.

So, if anyone’s remarks or behavior are hateful and comparable to Mussolini’s, they are not Obama’s; they are Santorum’s.

The man is not electable.

He says Black people live on handouts and other people’s money; he knows this not to be true but also realizes it’s a sure way of getting red-neck leaning votes. Santorum also compared consensual sex among gay Americans to sex with animals.

He’s not a serious candidate for the presidency. His extreme fundamentalist views include criminally charging doctors who perform abortions and banning it in all cases including rapes and incest.

Yet for the time being 30,000 people in Iowa –less than a third of the number of people who attend major Bowl games– have elevated Santorum to a podium from where he will get media attention for the next several weeks. He will be able to spew more hateful and angry messages to a wide audience.

At every stage, Santorum must be denounced and repudiated when he spreads hate. Soon, his star will also fade; other Republican candidates, including Michelle Bachman, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and Newt Gingrich were once “front runners.”

A man of extreme hate cannot offer anything good for this country.
