Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been accused of acting as a sexual predator in an attempted rape of an African female immigrant in a New York City hotel.
The case involves power, privilege, wealth, social status and race. A powerful European against a female African housekeeper working to earn a living in New York City. The hotel suite where the alleged crime is said to have occurred costs $3,000 per night--this is probably more than what the African maid makes in an entire month.
The woman's name has not been disclosed by the New York police. She is described as a 32-year old immigrant from Africa. Strauss-Kahn has been accused by several women in the past of sexual improprieties.
The story would sound almost incredible --that the chief of the IMF would launch such a perverted attack in a New York hotel-- were it not for the fact that this isn't the first time the Frenchman, who was regarded as the leading contender to defeat Nicolas Sarkozy in next year's presidential election, has been accused of a vicious attack against a woman.
Strauss-Kahn is married. Yet according to media accounts, including in The New York Times, his affairs was an "open secret."
Yet, in one case also reported by the newspaper, Strauss-Kahn was accused by a French writer of trying to rape her after she had gone to interview him about a book. The woman, in France, who did not file charges --but now in light of the New York incident says she may-- claimed she fought off Strauss-Kahn from the floor as he tried to take off her jeans and bra.
In the New York City incident last Saturday, the Frenchman is reported to have emerged from the bathroom of his hotel room naked and brazenly attacked the African, a maid who had come to clean his room and was unaware anyone else was in the room.
Strauss-Kahn is said to have locked the door of the hotel suite and then dragged the African woman to the bedroom in the alleged crazed attack. The woman reportedly fought off the attack but was then dragged by Strauss-Kahn into the bathroom and forced her to perform oral sex.
The woman reported the attack immediately, which allowed the New York Police to pluck the Frenchman out of a plane which was about to depart for Paris. In his reported haste to flee, Strauss-Kahn is said to have left his cell phone at the scene of the alleged crime.
The police are obtaining DNA evidence from Strauss-Kahn. Things don't look good for the Frenchman, Bwana Strauss-Kahn.
