TRAYVON MARTIN SUPPORT: HARLEM MARCH ON FRIDAY

Marchers are asked to join the demonstration on Friday wearing hooded sweatshirts and with posters of support — to lend their voices to those who have been silenced and help spread the word that Trayvon Martin, Ramarly Graham, Danroy Henry, Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo and the numerous others who have lost their lives will never be forgotten.

Rev. Robert B. Coleman Minister for Mission and Social Justice of The Riverside Church and The Rev. Emery Ailes from the Prison Ministry at Convent Avenue Baptist Church, will lead a march for justice through Harlem in honor of Trayvon Martin and all the victims of racial profiling, Friday April 13.

The march starts at 5:00 p.m.,  at Claremont Ave. and 120th St., Morningside Heights, starting at The Riverside Church with a prayer and brief statement from the ministers.

The procession will then head to Amsterdam Avenue and continue on to 144th Street and Convent Avenue, concluding at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church.  Upon arrival there will be a candle ceremony followed by a closing prayer and choir performance.

While our nation has awakened to the February 26th killing of Trayvon Martin, his case is but one example of a long-standing civil and human rights crisis that plagues our nation’s history. This long-standing civil rights crisis has in this current period, heightened the racism that institutionally cripples our society and our communities of color.

Riverside and Convent Avenue Baptist Churches are calling on all members of the faith community as well as the Harlem and New York City communities to participate and help call attention to the injustices that affect all of us — our children and our future.
