NCAA, NBA & MLB: A Perfect Pastime

Graduations, weddings & vacations, oh my!  In no uncertain terms, summer is definitely upon us!  No better way to kick it off than to slow things all the way down with a heavy rotation of rooftop pool and beachfront lounging.  A spotty forecast gave way to days of sunshine….the perfect backdrop for a mind to wander aimlessly:

While the sun aligned for my vacation retreat, the stars did not do the same for my Lady Sooners softball team nor Warriors….rehashing how things unfolded is not therapeutic, moving forward is.  Congrats to the Lady Bruins and extra special congrats to Toronto’s Raptors….for their first time with the coveted trophy!

Ditto to hockey’s St. Louis Blues & the PGA’s Gary Woodland for that matter…nothing breeds confidence like winning!

Which leads to a great conundrum….as much as I like the insurance commercials with CP3 and Harden, the mere mention of the mascot’s name “Clutch” always, always, always gives me pause….

That nickname is far more appropriate for the USA Women’s Soccer Team.  Naaah, scratch that, let’s go with FIIIRRREE instead!

My first love, baseball, keeps my head shaking.….

The answer to fan safety is simple…expand the netting.  Yet when you have a Commish who speaks to the woes of stadium design and the challenges of a one-size-fits-all solution it boggles the mind….

Ummm, we’re referring to the field not stadium.  If teams can follow the dugout to dugout rule, they can certainly do the same with foul pole to foul pole….just isn’t that hard!

The old adage of three sides to a story rings true when discussing players and umps and any friction that may arise.  Both sides should be respectful of the other…and umps must remember---no one came to see you.  Interjecting oneself into the game is reserved for rap artists with courtside seats at the home of champions. 

Attendance woes could be a thing of the past if the league were to abandon the prehistoric notion to market teams not players….when both could be done with ease.  Being a few rows behind the Padres dugout when  Manny made his return to Baltimore did my heart good….thing is,  the Mannys, Bryces, & Mike Trouts of the world should be household names.  Mass marketing made Kobe known to non-NBA fans & the Lakers managed not to suffer in the process.  Memo to MLB:  keep acting like a dinosaur and you’ll get treated that way!

I’m off to check with Human Resources about leave…could really use a vacay from my vacay, you know?
