The legendary Buck O’Neil founded the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in 1990 and served as its Chairman for 16 years.

For more than a decade, Buck used his birthday to help raise money and awareness for the NLBM. After the baseball icon passed away in 2006, the NLBM continued the tradition of celebrating his life!

Don’t miss “Celebrating A Majestic Soul: Buck O’Neil’s 108th Birthday Bash” featuring a scintillating encore concert performance by the amazing Queens of Soul Jazz: ALTHEA RENE and JEANETTE HARRIS. They set the Gem Theater stage on fire at the museum’s 2018 Jazz & Jackie celebration and by popular demand, they’re back to groove in memory of Buck.

Buck O’Neil’s birthday bash will be held on Saturday,  November, 9th in Kansas City, Missouri at the Gem Theater. Ticket packages include options to attend a pre-event Cocktail Party at the NLBM, Tribute to Buck and concert.

Buck O’Neil was a first baseman in the Negro American League, one of several baseball leagues that comprised the Negro Leagues. O’Neil played primarily with the Kansas City Monarchs, from 1938 to 1949. Prior to this, he played briefly with the Memphis Red Sox in 1937. He played in three Negro League all-star games and in two Negro League World Series. In 1942, he won a championship with the Monarchs. After twelve seasons, he amassed a .288 batting average.

O’Neil is cited as the first African-American coach in Major League Baseball. In 2006, he was given a Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush.
