AUGUSTA- On Saturday, April 10, starting at 10:30 AM ET, a coalition of faith leaders from across Georgia will hold a rally outside of The Masters tournament to demand the business community speak out to oppose voter suppression bills across the country, support federal voting rights bills, and invest in voter education efforts.

While many business leaders will be attending The Masters, one of Georgia’s most prominent events, the chairman of Augusta National Golf Club stopped short of condemning Georgia’s new voter suppression law. With voting rights under attack across the nation, now is the time for action, not silence.

The Masters is a tournament that did not permit Black participants until 1975, and Augusta National Golf Club did not admit its first Black member until 1991. If The Masters seeks to turn away from their incontrovertibly racist past, leaders must speak out now against racist attempts to silence Black voters in the present.

This event will be open to the public, and will include speakers and faith leaders from across the state to demand that corporate leaders speak out against attempts to silence the voices of voters and support voting rights.

Speakers will include:

Rev. Shanan Jones, President of Concerned Black Clergy

Rev. Fer-rel Malone, Senior Pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church

Rev. Melvin Ivey, President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Augusta

Rev. Chris Johnson, Black Voters Matter Augusta
