NFL & NCAA Football: Continued Thanks

Lamar

As the season of giving thanks continues, I will follow suit:

I’m thankful to search for value in the moment, to savor it in fact.  Hopefully Dak Prescott has been doing the same…because nothing changes a tidal wave of praise like a “l”.  After becoming better than okay with Tony Romo on the bench….and getting used to the 90s all over again with Dak, Inc…..yet another loss to the Giants had Cowboys fans second guessing whether or not they had found their happy place a bit too soon.  Will righting the ship with a victory over the Bucs quiet things down? We’ll see….

I’m thankful…talk really is cheap.  As proud as I was to have not one but two Oklahoma players…Mayfield & Westbrook….named as Heisman finalists, the background noise of two end of season losses translating to talking the trophy out of Louisville’s Lamar Jackson’s hands was maddening.  The season is twelve games not TWO and should be assessed as such…..

I’m thankful that nothing could make me sell out the Sooners.  How does a professional…with deep ties to a university…look people in the eye….then without blinking….sell his soul by giving away the game plans of the very team signing his paycheck? Wake Forest had a Brutus amongst them & didn’t know soon enough…..

To that point…I’m thankful in realizing there is a finite number to the amount of times one is granted the benefit of the doubt. Louisville’s basketball and football programs have used every one of theirs…

I’m thankful to know that all that glitters is not gold.  Lane Kiffin was the football world’s golden boy with not nary a reason for quite some time…..then after finally making good on it, he was still flicked away like a pesky fly on the shoulders of a straw fedora hat wearing head coach…..

I’m thankful for wisdom. It is never good to get in a huff and puff with the franchise’s most famous face.  And definitely not when the famous face wears one of those coveted gold jackets.  Aaaandd definitely not when your team is smack dab in yet another losing season….on the heels of a much ado offseason involving a move from one city to the glitz & glamour of another.  Just saying Jeff Fisher just sayin…..

I’m thankful for keeping an open mind….even from sources not previously considered.  Can’t say I’ve ever been in the fan club of Steve Spurrier….but can say his hows & whys of revamping the college playoffs made perfect sense.  Something tells me Penn State’s fan would wholeheartedly agree with the Old Ball Coach!

Over the next few weeks I’ll be cozying up with a blanket, remote control, bowl and NFL playoff games…..and for that I’m truly thankful!
