Silkeborg Signs Ugandan Soccer Star

“I can confirm that Hassan impressed and he definitely signed the contract today, said Jan Fray who scouted three Uganda players to have their maiden careers in the Danish Football League.

Ugandan soccer star Hassan Mubiru signed a contact with his new Danish Club Silkeborg and is scheduled to take onto the field of play on Saturday against Esbjerg FB, Black Star News Europe correspondent Norman Miwambo reports from London.

“I can confirm that Hassan impressed and he definitely signed the contract today,” said Jan Fray who scouted three Uganda players to have their maiden careers in the Danish Football League.

Previously, Uganda has seen two professional players Magid Musisi a.k.a. Tyson and Livingston Mbabazi playing for European Clubs Rennes of France and St. Patrick Athletic of Republic of Ireland, respectively. International player Mubiru and two youth players Benjamin Ochan and Daniel Serunkuma will be joining the few Ugandans that have played in such elite soccer leagues in Denmark.

According to Fray, Mubiru impressed Head Coach Preben Lundbye. The 2001 Danish Cup winners played in the 1994 Champion League and in 1995, 1996, 1998 and 2001 UEFA Cup competitions. “He is a liked fellow here and I think he is going to play a full match in his first appearance,” said Lundbye.

Meanwhile, Ochan and Serunkuma who made their maiden appearance on the Danish football turfs in 2002 with the then Kampala Kids League (KKL) U-13 side have been successful and enrolled into an Under-18 years side.  Both Ochan, goalkeeper, and Serunkuma, Midfielder, featured for the 2002 KKL U-13 Tivoli Champion are now playing for AGF 1 division team’s U-18 years. “The U-18 years are the best soccer league in Denmark,” says Fray, adding that, “I promise you, it has very good football of high quality level.”
