Those Were The Days: Doc has high praises for Jeter
Jeter is the greatest shortstop in the history of the Yankees. Baseball's greatest team. And he is one of the greatest shortstops to ever don a baseball uniform. Not to mention a guy who always comes through in the clutch. Jeter is an everyday living All star in the game of life and baseball…
Well this is baseballs' All-star week and wow what a dud. I remember when they use to play two games. Imagine that—a chance to watch Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax, Mickey Mantle, Frank Robinson, Whitney Ford, Harmon Killerbrew and company play twice in one week against each other. Now guys don't want to play in the game at all. Many when even selected. Seems they don't seem to think it is a honor anymore. Then again with the money most of them are making, aiding the baseball players pension fund is an extinct concept. Then again forget about the concept of playing for the love of the game. Which you can't whole heartily fault the players for. The owners have showed the players it is all about business. That is except when the owners want a player to show loyalty when it will best aid the owners cause. Now they have the home run hitting contest, which allows guys who are not really home run hitters, to hit in it. Think back to if they had of come up with this concept back in the day. Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Elston Howard, Harmon Killerbrew, Ted Williams all American league stars. Pitted against National league sluggers the likes of, Willie McCovey, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, Frank Howard and Orlando Cepeda. Now that would have been something. 'Home run <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Derby' at the All*star game...wow.

And how great are the New York fans that they don't vote Derek Jeter onto the team? Jeter is the greatest shortstop in the history of the Yankees. Baseball's greatest team. And he is one of the greatest shortstops to ever don a baseball uniform. Not to mention a guy who always comes through in the clutch. Jeter is an everyday living All star in the game of life and baseball. Captain Yankee is a Yankee doodle dandy every day of the year. Remember too, when the games, ike World series games were played in the day time? Also remember how the National league use to dominate the game? This was because they had all the great African-American players. Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, Ernie Banks and Bob Gibson to name a few. The National league saw Black players could and would be stars and accepted them a lot quicker than the American League.
The All-star game always seemed to be Willie Mays personal show case. Mays holds a host of All-star game records. And played so peerless in the game of stars. Mays once hit a triple in the all*star game. One of the announcers turned to the other as Mays stood on third base and remarked to his colleague. "You realize that the only man who could have caught that ball was the one that hit it." Willie Mays was the greatest star in the galaxy of superstars. DIAMOND DUST: Willie Mays, is the youngest man to ever hit 50 or more homeruns in a season. Don Newcombe first African-American hurler to win the Cy Young and MVP award. And to do so in the same season. Bob Gibson was the second. Ernie Banks first African-American player to win MVP award in back to back season. Joe Morgan was the second and a second baseman at that. Barry Bonds was the third to do so. Speaking of Barry Bonds, things sure seem dull without Barry around. If there was no Willie Mays, Barry Bonds would be the greatest baseball player ever.

It was sexy to be against the war back then. He was probably in it to get laid.
