Ugandan Prospect Ups Her Record

"It has been a great day for Janet," said Kevin O’Connor, her coach. "Our 800m target for this year was 2 min 6 sec. That she has achieved this so early in the season means that she can now aim to run much faster in Serbia.”

Uganda’s young prospect Achola Janet improved her 800m personal best by over three and a half seconds at Kampala’s Mandela National Stadium today.

Her time of 2 min 6.2 sec obliterated her previous PB of 2 min 9.9 sec, which she set in the Second Uganda Athletic Federation (UAF) National Trials in April.

Achola, of Kampala International University, was one of the many university senior athletes who were allowed to compete as non-scoring guests in today’s National Junior Championships.

The students are preparing for the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia from July 1 – 12.

At the Games, Achola is hoping to represent Uganda in the 800m and 1500m.

“It has been a great day for Janet,” said Kevin O’Connor, her coach. “Our 800m target for this year was 2 min 6 sec. That she has achieved this so early in the season means that she can now aim to run much faster in Serbia.”
