It was another tough day for an African team when Tunisia’s hopes for a draw were shattered by a header from England’s unmarked captain in the dying moments of their World Cup game on Monday in Volgograd.
Tunisia seemed poised to enjoy a 1-1 tie until England’s captain Harry Kane redirected a header from close range into the left side of the net; it was his second goal of the match. In the first half Tunisian goalie Hassan had made a near impossible save but unfortunately for him the ball bounced straight towards Kane who wasted no time burying it into the back of the net.
This means so far each of the African teams that have played–Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco and Tunisia–have all dropped their opening games. In other group marches today Belgium crushed Colombia 3-0 and Sweden snuck by South Korea 1-0.
The only African team that hasn’t played so far, Senegal, opens group play against Poland tomorrow.
Egypt will match up against host country Russia, a second game for both nations. Russia crushed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening match of the World Cup tournament 2018.
