Roy Moore’s bid to shrug off serious sex allegations and ride Donald Trump’s coattails to the U.S. Senate ended in disaster last night when Black Voters turned out in overwhelming numbers to reject him.
Exit polls showed Doug Jones gaining the support of 97% of Black women voters and 93% of Black males, propelling a Democrat to the Senate from Alabama for the first time in 25 years. Black voters make up 30% of the electorate in Alabama.
Black women were 17% of the voters and Black men about 12%.
Trump who infamously himself boasted about groping women’s private parts and forcefully kissing them lent his full support to Moore, ignoring the multiple allegations that he pursued teenagers and underage girls when he was in his 30s.
The repudiation of the predatory duo, Moore and Trump –an alleged sex abuser and a confessed abuser– may be early signs that the national pendulum is swinging in the direction of sanity once again.
With 99% of the vote counted and Jones leading by 1.5% of the vote totals a discombobulated Moore addressed stunned supporters before midnight and refused to concede.
Moore was also endorsed by the Alt-right champion Steve Bannon.
