Donald Trump is apparently now trying to fix the election in his favor–through his recently appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, shown above–and the plan seems to be to disrupt the vote-by-mail system which Trump has been whining about over the last few weeks.

During an intense pandemic that has forced millions of Americans to turn to vote-by-mail with the support of the U.S. postal system, reports today indicate that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has transferred two top postal executives and reassigned or minimized more than 30 others.

“Post Master General DeJoy’s sacking of postal leadership may be remembered as August’s Friday Night Massacre,” was the headline of a Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law press release on the Friday transfers and reassignments of top postal officials by Trump’s appointee DeJoy.

The following is a statement from Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law:

“We are sounding an alarm regarding personnel changes, policy shifts and service disruptions happening inside the U.S. Postal Service on Louis DeJoy’s watch. The postal service lies at the heart of our democracy and is critical to the success of an unprecedented vote-by-mail system that is needed for a fair and effective 2020 election season. The postal service helps ensure that our nation’s most vulnerable communities are receiving medications and resources during the pandemic. It is also critical to the efforts to achieve a full and accurate 2020 Census.

“The Trump administration’s intentions are clear. Louis DeJoy, a Trump donor with no experience inside the postal service, has been installed to cause chaos and disruption at a time when the timely delivery of mail could not be more critical.”
