Thursday, New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) announced its final three political candidate endorsements in 2021, bringing the total number of endorsements to 45.

These endorsements add to the strong cohorts of NALAF-endorsed candidates in Massachusetts, New York, and Ohio, and, with them, NALAF is well-positioned to build on its win rate of nearly 70% for this cycle.

“This year, we’re proud to support 45 trailblazing New American candidates who are running for office across the country—our highest number ever,” said Ghida Dagher, President of New American Leaders Action Fund. “From school boards and city councils to the mayor’s office, our endorsees have been running bold, authentic, and community-centered campaigns over the past year. They’re changing the narrative of who can and should run for office and will soon get to see their dreams realized in less than three weeks on Election Day.”

NALAF also stated that:

“Our three endorsed candidates represent the present and future of our democracy. Will Mbah is an immigrant from Cameroon and current Somerville City Councilor who, if elected, will be the first Black and person of color mayor of a city where Black Americans make up less than 7% of the population.

Linda Lee is a second generation Korean American and native New Yorker who’s running for New York City Council because she wants to be a voice for immigrants, seniors, and other marginalized community members in Eastern Queens.

Ukeme Awakessien Jeter is a first generation Nigerian American and innovative leader who would be the first immigrant and person of color on the Upper Arlington City Council. It’s important that we elect these visionary leaders and other New American candidates at the local level because they are the key to building sustainable progressive power in communities across the U.S.”

NALAF’s final slate of endorsed candidates includes:

Massachusetts

Will Mbah, first generation Cameroonian American, Somerville Mayor

New York

Linda Lee, second generation Korean American, New York City Council, District 23

Ohio

Ukeme Awakessien Jeter, first generation Nigerian American, Upper Arlington City Council
