Sarah loves Donald: a trumpster fire

Like you, I watched on Wednesday as Sarah Palin endorsed Donald J. Trump. Like everyone else, I have my own opinions about it. I, too, have seen the fallout from Wednesday’s meeting of two titans of narcissism. If I had to summarize it all in two words, those two words would be Trumpster fire.

Please allow me to elaborate. In urban phraseology, the phrase dumpster fire is defined as either “a complete disaster” – or “a difficult, uncomfortable situation that nobody wants to deal with.” I think Wednesday’s endorsement speech by Sarah Palin was a complete disaster. In my not-so-humble opinion, Donald Trump’s frontrunner status as a 2016 Republican presidential candidate is a difficult, uncomfortable situation that nobody wants to deal with. And the fact that Trump rhymes with dump was an added bonus. Creative license, people.

I’m currently learning Greek. Previously, I have studied Latin and Spanish. I’ve mastered the English language. Having said that, I haven’t the foggiest notion of what former Governor Palin was saying. Was that Palinese on Wednesday? I seriously wonder if the Donald even knew. Did you see the expression on his face while she was speaking? It looked like the man was about to erupt into hysterical laughter at any second.

But don’t take my word for it. You try deciphering what Sarah Palin meant:

“Well, I am here because like you I know that it is now or never. I’m in it to win it because we believe in America, and we love our freedom. Thank a vet, and know that the United States military deserves a commander-in-chief that our country passionately, and will never apologize for this country. A new commander-in-chief who will never leave our men behind. A new commander-in-chief, one who will never lie to the families of the fallen. I’m in it, because just last week, we’re watching our sailors suffer and be humiliated on a world stage at the hands of Iranian captors in violation of international law, because a weak-kneed, capitulator-in-chief has decided America will lead from behind. And he, who would negotiate deals, kind of with the skills of a community organizer maybe organizing a neighborhood tea, well, he decided that, “No, America would apologize as part of the deal,” as the enemy sends a message to the rest of the world that they capture and we kowtow, and we apologize, and then, we bend over and say, ‘Thank you, enemy.’ No more pussy footin’ around! Our troops deserve the best, you deserve the best!

“His (Trump’s) candidacy, which is a movement, it’s a force, it’s a strategy. It proves, as long as the politicos, they get to keep their titles, and their perks, and their media ratings, they don’t really care who wins elections. Believe me on this. Look what’s happening today. Our own GOP machine, the establishment, they who would assemble the political landscape, they’re attacking their own frontrunner. Now would the Left ever, would the DNC ever come after their frontrunner and her supporters? No because they don’t eat their own, they don’t self-destruct. But for the GOP establishment to be coming after Donald Trump’s supporters even, with accusations that are so false. They are so busted, the way that this thing works.

“They stomp on our neck, and then they tell us, ‘Just chill, O.K., just relax.’ Well, look, we are mad, and we’ve been had. They need to get used to it. In fact it’s time to drill, baby, drill down, and hold these folks accountable.”

Sweet milk of magnesia!

Thankfully, I don’t speak Palinese.

Whenever I see or hear Governor Palin, I see potential completely and utterly unfulfilled. She had it all once upon a time. She had momentum, a national/international platform, and a base of faithful fans/followers. We all know how the McCain-Palin ticket famously flamed out in 2008 when it was sounded defeated by Obama-Biden. Even then, she was still a political star. Imagine if Palin had served out the rest of her term as governor; or if she had earned a Master’s degree in International Affairs; or a Ph.D in American History. Consider how much gravitas Mrs. Palin could have earned if instead of habitually criticizing President Obama, she had emulated him. What if she had been teaching as a college professor? What if she had done some community organizing of her own? Imagine if she had spent the last several years closing every previous flaw in her political playbook. Had all - or any - of those steps been taken, perhaps Palin would be the GOP frontrunner for 2016 instead of Trump. Maybe he would have been endorsing her candidacy instead.

Alas, none of those things happened. Now, Palin is relegated to going cuckoo for cocoa puffs for a man who prides himself on offending as many subsections of the American people as possible. She stands with the man who claimed that Senator John McCain was not a war hero. She has endorsed the fellow (Trump) who publicly besmirched the reputation of her running mate from 2008 (McCain) - the Republican nominee for president who plucked her from obscurity. Palin going rogue. Again.

Meanwhile, why did Trump ever feel he needed/wanted Palin’s endorsement in the first place? It doesn’t help him – it hurts him. Someone who will never be president endorsing a candidate… whose endorsement will help prevent him from ever being president? One past chaos candidate stepping up for another, current chaos candidate? Sounds about right, pun fully intended.

As I said before: dumpster fire. Or rather – Trumpster fire.
