The Coral Springs, Fl., Police Department is defending two officers who video from a cellphone camera show asaulting a 14-year-old child durig her arrest.

A female officer pinned the girl facedown on the ground as a male officer who also knelt beside the girl punched her viciously on her right side. The child was a part of a group of teenagers whom some store owners had called police to complain about at a mall.

Jessica Dennis, the girl’s mother later told media, of the police’s action, “He went completely overboard….Her hands were pinned up. It was just too much.”

“I was heartbroken and I couldn’t see her,” she added. “They just seemed nonchalant. They didn’t care.” In the video other children can be heard yelling at the fully-grown police officer to stop punching the girl.

Referring to the police action, Deputy Chief Brad McKeon of the Coral Springs Police Department, later said, “That officer’s actions were 100 percent within policy, legal and were not excessive.”

In a statement the police department said: “It is important for people to have all the facts before rushing to judgment of an officer’s actions when faced with calls for service involving violent suspects — regardless of their age or gender.”

The girl was slammed to the ground by the officers before the male cop delivered the body blows to her side.

The police say security officers had called about a group of teenagers allegedly harassing shoppers at the Coral Square Mall.
