Donald Sterling — undone by his own mouth?

The National Action Network’s President Rev. Al Sharpton who’s also host of Politics Nation on MSNBC welcome the lifetime ban on Clipper’s owner Donald Sterling by the NBA following his tape-recorded comments telling his girlfriend he didn’t want her associating with Black people or bringing them to the sports arena.

Sterling has been dogged by accusations of directing racist comments at African Americans and has also been sued for discrimination in housing.

His recorded comments were universally condemned including by President Obama.

“The lifetime banning of Donald Sterling is a bold and appropriate action in this matter,” Rev. Al Sharpton, founder and President of the National Action Network, said, in a statement.

“This is a huge victory for those of us that stood against this ugly display of racism. We must continue to make unequivocal stands against bigotry and racism. I look forward to speaking to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and beginning the dialogue with other civil rights leaders right away to discuss putting in measures to make sure this never happens again.”

Silver in a news conference said the league would get the other team owners to force Sterling to sell his team.

In an earlier column, Black Star News writer Colin Benjamin had questioned why Sterling’s alleged racist transgressions over the years had been ignored by the NBA in the past.
