Statement from Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network, on the filing of charges in the death of Terence Crutcher:

“The first-degree manslaughter charges against this officer are a swift step in the right direction as we pursue justice in the death of Terence Crutcher. But we also look forward to a further investigation of all the officers at the scene when this tragedy occurred and we are anxious to know whether the conduct of these other officers will be subject to disciplinary actions or legal proceedings.”

BACKGROUND: The family of Terence Crutcher, the unarmed African American man killed by a Tulsa, Oklahoma, police officer, along with his attorney Benjamin L. Crump joined Rev. Al Sharpton at NAN’s House of Justice yesterday to call for a National Day of Justice in Tulsa next Tuesday, September 27. This past Tuesday on Rev. Sharpton’s nationally syndicated radio show “Keepin it Real,” Rev. Al Sharpton interviewed the father of Terence Crutcher, Rev. Joey Crutcher, who asked for Rev. Sharpton and the National Action Network to come to Tulsa, Oklahoma and help secure justice on behalf of his son. Rev. Sharpton will travel to Tulsa on Tuesday.
