Swampman: The Return of Rudy Giuliani

If it fits, you must not resist. Giuliani is at home in the Trump swamp

During his presidential campaign run, Donald Trump promised to bring change to Washington by “draining the swamp.”

But since Trump slithered into the White House, he has filled it with individuals of zero integrity—starting off with racists like Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller.

Trump has now hired one of the biggest racists yet to join his legal team: Rudy Giuliani. Black New Yorkers know Rudy Giuliani’s history very well, which we will get to more later.

One of his most memorable comments, after a Black man named Patrick Dorismond was wrongfully killed by police was that Dorismond was “no choirboy.” In fact, he was a member of his church choir.

Over the last week, Giuliani has been speaking out on Fox News in defense of the biggest liar the American Presidency has ever seen: Donald Trump. Ironically, in doing so, Giuliani has undercut Donald Trump on many key points, including in one scandal Trump is most worried about: The Stormy Daniels affair.

For months, Trump, and his White House, claimed he had no knowledge of a hush-money payment of $130,000 to Ms. Daniels, to silence her about an alleged affair she had with Trump. The cover story has been that lowly lawyer Michael Cohen payed Daniels out of his own pocket, just prior to the November 2016 Elections. Trump, supposedly, had no knowledge of this.

Giuliani’s Fox News interview, last Wednesday, contradicted that fanciful account. Giuliani claimed Cohen “funneled” the hush-money “through the law firm and the president repaid it.” On Thursday, Trump said he reimbursed Cohen but claims the payments “had nothing to do with the campaign.”

Unfortunately, for Trump, his friend Giuliani contradicted this claim during the interview when he said: “Imagine if that came out on Oct. 15, 2016 in the middle of the last debate with Hillary Clinton. Cohen didn’t even ask. Cohen made it go away. He didn’t even ask.”

Giuliani’s words here make it clear the hush-money payment was made because: it was feared Ms. Daniels’ story could damage Trump’s presidential prospect if revealed. Because of Giuliani’s blunder, Trump was forced to address the issue on Friday.

While calling Giuliani a “great guy,” Trump however criticize him saying “He’ll get his facts straight. There has been a lot of misinformation. I say, you know what? Learn before you speak. It’s a lot easier.”

In other words: we have to synchronize our lies.

In seeking to clarify the issue, Giuliani made this head-scratching statement “My references to timing were not describing my understanding of the president’s knowledge, but instead, my understanding of these matters.”

Is Giuliani telling us here he knows nothing “of the president’s knowledge” on this matter? If so, how can he say there was no violation of campaign finance laws? Moreover, if Giuliani isn’t clear on the facts, why is he speaking as if he knows something? What is his purpose then in representing Trump?

Maybe there is a good reason why he never made it pass first base when be ran for president–voters could see through him.

Giuliani in trying to be a loyal lackey has made Trump more vulnerable to legal jeopardy.

Trump’s legal challenges keep mounting. We have the alleged Russia collusion question and the obstruction of justice issue regarding Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey. However, the porn star payment to Stormy Daniels is one of the things Trump seems most worried about.

Trump has avoided attacking Stormy Daniels. He likes attacking everyone else, except Russian President Vladimir Putin. It seems clear Trump is afraid of something Daniels has on him. It can only be something of a sexual nature.

Putin probably has something similar on Trump—which would explain Trump’s reticence to talk tough against Putin. Trump has done everything not to levy sanctions against Russia. Why aren’t Republicans, who also voted for sanctions, not questioning Trump’s strange stance on Russia?

Trump has called all the women who accused him of sexual harassment and assault liars. But he remains largely silent about Stormy Daniels’s allegations. Why?

Of course, there is now emerging reporting that Trump did have knowledge of the hush-money payment. This shouldn’t surprise us. Even though Giuliani pretended $130,000 isn’t much money, are we to really believe Cohen would make such a payment without Trump’s knowledge?

Stunningly, Giuliani also made it clear Trump fired Comey because Comey wouldn’t assure him he wasn’t a target of an FBI investigation.

On Fox News, Giuliani said Trump “fired Comey because Comey would not — among other things — say that he wasn’t a target of the investigation…he fired him, and he said, ‘I’m free of this guy.’”

There may be no legal jeopardy for Trump’s action in doing this. But isn’t this a clear admission Trump was trying to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation? If there is nothing nefarious, why did Trump feel the need to fire Comey?

Giuliani was once the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. In this capacity, he worked with FBI agents, like the ones he just labeled “stormtroopers,” because of their raid on Michael Cohen. He also worked with James Comey, who he would have us believe is the liar—instead of Trump.

Black New Yorkers know that Giuliani, just like his bosom-buddy Trump, is an unrepentant racist with zero integrity. Giuliani, along with Bill Bratton, use the bigoted “Broken Windows” racial policing procedure—which routinely brutalized Blacks in New York City. Giuliani has claimed his policing policies reduced crime—but statistics show crime started falling during the administration of Black Mayor David Dinkins when he boosted community policing.

Now let’s talk about the racist strategy Giuliani used to get elected mayor: by encouraging rioting by police officers back in 1992.

Legendary Village Voice reporter, the late Nat Hentoff, recounted the events in a 2016 article published by the Cato Institute.

“As many as 10,000 demonstrators blocked traffic in downtown Manhattan on Sept. 16, 1992. Reporters and innocent bystanders were violently assaulted by the mob as thousands of dollars in private property was destroyed in multiple acts of vandalism. The protesters stormed up the steps of City Hall, occupying the building. They then streamed onto the Brooklyn Bridge, where they blocked traffic in both directions, jumping on the cars of trapped, terrified motorists. Many of the protestors were carrying guns and openly drinking alcohol.

“Yet the uniformed police present did little to stop them. Why? Because the rioters were nearly all White, off-duty NYPD officers. They were participating in a Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association demonstration against Mayor David Dinkins’ call for a Civilian Complaint Review Board and his creation earlier that year of the Mollen Commission, formed to investigate widespread allegations of misconduct within the NYPD.

“In the center of the mayhem, standing on top of a car while cursing Mayor Dinkins through a bullhorn, was mayoral candidate Rudy Giuliani.”

Many of these NYPD cops openly displayed racist drawings of Mayor Dinkins. Some talked about “the nigger in City Hall.” Giuliani was right there cheering these racist cops on.

The 1992 NYPD police riot is one example that shows us “birds of a feather” do “flock together.” Giuliani used racism to get elected mayor. Trump did the same to get elected president

Therefore, it’s no surprise when Giuliani became mayor he instituted racial policing as the order of the day.

In 1998, Giuliani showed galling hypocrisy when he attacked Dinkins, for an article the former mayor wrote in The Village Voice after Abner Louima was sodomized by Officer Justin Volpe. Giuliani complained Dinkins’ article was used to “racially divide the city.”

In February 1999, after Amadou Diallo was killed, Giuliani bitterly complained about protesters carrying signs saying, “NYPD equals KKK.” But now he is calling FBI agents “storm troopers?”.

We all know Trump championed the bigoted “Birther” lie, about President Barack Obama not being an American citizen. Trump’s attacks on Obama, come from the same playbook as Giuliani encouraging racist cops to riot. In fact, it would not be shocking if Giuliani advised Trump on his “Birther” strategy.

By now, we know what Trump’s “make America great again” slogan really means: make America White again. Doesn’t this explain Trump’s refusal to denounce the racists in Charlottesville?

Instead of “draining the swamp,” Trump has filled it with the ultimate Swampman Rudy Giuliani.
