Three Baton Rouge police officers were killed in a shootout with men wearing all-black outfits and several others were wounded today, according to the authorities there.
One person involved in the shootout was killed, the authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on Airline Highway near Old Hammond Highway and involved Baton Rouge police officers and East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies, a spokesperson said in a statement.
The police did not say whether a motive for the shooting had been established.
The shooting comes just 10 days after the shooting dead of three officers in Dallas, Texas, after a protest against the execution-style shooting of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the shooting the next day of Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota.
The police said two persons involved in the gun-fight “may be at large.” Three officers were also wounded, the spokesperson said.
According to the authorities, one wounded officer was listed in critical condition, another as fair, while the third in non-threatening condition.
