Zimmerman Travesty: Who Will Join Stevie Wonder In Boycotting Florida?
[The Zimmerman Travesty]
There are false rumors circulating on the Internet about a number of artists who've allegedly joined Stevie Wonder in a boycott of performing in FLorida and other states with Stand Your Ground laws.
Some of these artists are not countering these rumors when they know it's not true.
Some of the misinformation has it that the following have joined the boycott: The Rolling Stones, Alicia Keys, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rihana and Trey Songz. Rest assured, many of these artists may have weighed in with heavy hearts at their local Trayvon Tribute but, Stevie is putting his money where his mouth is.
He's truly taken a stand unseen since the days of protest against South Africa.
Harry Belefonte and other popular artists of those days refused to perform at Sun City a popular tourist attraction that, along with the rest of the country, barred Blacks. The artists who boycotted Sun City included: Miles Davis, Bruce Springsteen, Kool DJ Herc, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Ruben Blades, Bob Dylan, Pat Benatar, Herbie Hancock, Ringo Starr , Run–D.M.C., Clarence Clemons, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Darlene Love, Bobby Womack, Afrika Bambaataa, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys, Jackson Browne, U2, George Clinton, Keith Richards, Hall & Oates, Jimmy Cliff, Big Youth, Ron Carter, Ray Barretto, Gil-Scott Heron, Nona Hendryx, and others.
These artists, by participating in an economic impacting protest played a significant role in the demise of the brutal apartheid regime.
In the face of the killings of Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant and the countless young Black men murdered or maimed with permission granted by Stand Your Ground laws, should we expect less of today's celebrities?
Is the acquisition of yet another diamond bauble or a gold plated bathtub worth lives destroyed or lost? Don't dare come talking about another "Tribute To Trayvon" or some similar empty platitude, designed to provide a photo-op for the star and the entourage before stepping into the Bentley and driving off to spend the dollars made from ticket buyers who then return home to disrespect, and the threat of death, not because they're wearing a hoodie but, just because they're Black.

It was sexy to be against the war back then. He was probably in it to get laid.
