NAACP Creates Award In Bill Lynch’s Name

The NAACP has created a new award to honor Bill Lynch, the star political strategist and the Chairman and Founder of Bill Lynch Associates, LLC, the premier Black owned and operated political consulting firm in New York city— for his exemplary career as one of the top political minds in the country.

“I’m thrilled to have an award named in my honor,” Lynch said. “To be recognized for what I love to do is humbling. My commitment to my work and to mentoring young people has come easy for me because I believe in putting people and community first, and when you do that, you always win.”

Nicknamed the “rumpled genius” by his colleagues, Lynch has been a revered advisor to some of the great humanitarians and elected officials of our time, including Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa and anti-apartheid leader, and former Mayor David Dinkins, New York City’s first and only African-American mayor, whose historic victory is partly credited to Lynch.

The award was sponsored by the Northeast Region of the NAACP, which stretches from Maine to Delaware.  U.S. Representative Allyson Schwartz and Pittsburgh City Councilman R. Daniel Lavelle were the fist recipients of the award, which was presented during the NAACP’s annual Regional Civil Rights Advocacy Training Institute Conference in Pittsburgh during the Medgar Wiley Evers Awards Gala.

Lynch has personally mentored a myriad of young strategists who now hold key positions within all levels of government as well as major civil rights organizations, including Marvin Bing, now the Northeast Regional Director and former intern to Lynch.

“Bill Lynch is not only a great political strategist, but also an honorable man of great character,” said Bing. “He is a champion of doing what’s right for the community, and his contributions are countless. This award is just one small way we can ensure that his name will forever be remembered for all the hard work he has done in Harlem and throughout the country.”

“In the years to come we will continue to grant this award to those who have the courage to put community first, just as Bill as done his entire career,” Bing concluded.

Other special guests included National Delta Sigma Theta Sorority President Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, SEIU 32BJ’s Secretary-Treasurer Kyle Bragg, and NAACP-New York State Conference President, Dr. Hazel Dukes.
