314 Action Organization sent DNC letter calling for a Presidential Debate on the wordwide threat of Climate Change…

(Washington, D.C.) — Today, 314 Action pledged $100,000 as seed money for a Presidential debate on climate change.

An open letter is now live at www.DebateOnClimate.org, and candidates and partner organizations are invited to reach out to participate via [email protected]

The DNC has refused to host a single-issue debate, despite calls from its own members, public polling data showing the issue rising in importance to voters, and the fact that climate change is the most pressing issue facing humanity. 314 Action is inviting candidates’ campaigns to privately reach out to the organization to express interest, and is the first organization to pledge financial resources to host an event.

Shaughnessy Naughton, President of 314 Action, released the following statement: “The DNC is missing a real opportunity to listen to its members and host a debate on climate change. It’s why 314 Action is pledging $100,000 to facilitate a debate and calling on the candidates and partner organizations to help make this important conversation happen. We’re hearing from young people around the world and also from 314 Action’s membership that this is one of the top issues for voters. Climate change is an existential crisis and it’s worthy of an hour-and-a-half-long debate where Democrats can put forth their plans for voters to see. Part of the purpose of a primary process is to get to know the candidates, but also it’s a competition of ideas. Regardless of who wins the Democratic nomination, voters deserve to know what these candidates’ plans are for climate change.”
