Jumaane Williams To Speak On Voting Rights Panel IN CBC Conference

New York City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn), Deputy Leader and Chair of the Council’s Housing and Buildings Committee, will appear as a Voting Rights Braintrust panelist during the 45th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Legislative Conference.

The panel, Thursday, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, is hosted by Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) with Marilyn Mosby, State Attorney, Baltimore, Ohio State Representative Emilia Sykes (D-34), and moderated by Spencer Overton, President of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies in Room 145A of the Washington Convention Center. The panel discussion will end with a Q-and-A open to press.

This Braintrust panel discussion will be a dynamic, interactive exploration of the history and historic impact of voter participation, featuring young elected officials and diverse political strategists. The panel will cover the importance of voter protection and participation, and the unanticipated ways in which voter protection and participation can change the course of history. Council Member Williams represents the 45th New York City Council District in Brooklyn, which covers Flatbush, East Flatbush, Flatlands, and parts of Midwood and Canarsie. He is the chair of the Committee on Housing and Buildings, and co-chair of the Task Force to Combat Gun Violence. He is a co-founding member of the Progressive Caucus, and a member of the Black, Latino & Asian Caucus. He was first elected to office in 2009 and re-elected in 2013.
