This week, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) announced the Committee has served a subpoena on former White House staff secretary Rob Porter for testimony on September 17, 2019.

Subpoenas were also issued this month for Corey Lewandowski and Rick Dearborn to also appear on September 17th. These witnesses were all involved in President Trump’s extensive efforts to obstruct the Special Counsel’s investigation.

The House Judiciary Committee also filed a motion to expedite the ruling in the lawsuit to compel former White House Counsel Don McGahn to testify before the Committee as part of its impeachment investigation into obstruction, corruption and abuse of power by President Donald Trump and his associates.

Chairman Nadler released the following statement regarding the subpoena of Rob Porter:

“As I’ve said before, any other American would have been prosecuted based on the evidence Special Counsel Mueller uncovered in his report. Rob Porter was prominently featured in the Special Counsel’s description of President Trump’s efforts to obstruct justice by directing then-White House Counsel Don McGahn to fire the Special Counsel, and then ordering him to lie about it.

“The Committee intends to hold hearings and obtain testimony over the coming months as part of its efforts to hold the President accountable as we move forward with our investigation into obstruction, corruption and abuse of power by Trump and his associates. This will help the Committee determine whether to recommend articles of impeachment against the President or other Article 1 remedies. No one is above the law.”

Regarding the ruling on McGhan, Chairman Nadler said the following:

“As the Committee moves forward with its efforts to determine whether to recommend articles of impeachment against the President, we will do everything in our power to hear from those who directly witnessed President Trump’s crimes outlined in Special Counsel Mueller’s report. We have made clear that Don McGahn’s testimony is the most crucial because of his central role in witnessing the President’s multiple acts of obstruction of justice.

“President Trump and the White House have repeatedly blocked witnesses from complying with Committee subpoenas and documents and continue to attempt to stall progress in the courts. We are aware of this strategy to prevent Congress and the American people from hearing the truth about Trump’s obstruction which is why expediting Mr. McGahn’s testimony is so very important. We look forward to the Judge considering our request.”
