Black Scholar and Educator Faces Firing Over his Complaint of Racism, Discrimination, and Nepotism in DOE’s District 79.

Dr. Rupert Green, long time community educator, educational activist, member of State Senator Comrie’s Educational Advisory Committee, and a 15-year veteran NYC educator was abruptly pulled out of his classroom on Thursday and placed in a warehouse to face dismissal proceedings.

In the meanwhile, his students at John Adams High School, in a Science Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program Green recently started, has no teacher qualified to teach the program.

The decision came as a result of a Special Commissioner of Investigation (SCI) finding that Dr. Green “used the DOE email to send derogatory emails to staff members”.

Dr. Green claimed he has been sending emails for 15 years to talk about educational matters, including actions District 79 engages in to prevent Blacks, especially males, from becoming school administrators. “There are no Black male principals in District 79,” he says.

Green reported how a new principal was elected in a secret manner contradicting the C-30 procedure prescribed by the Chancellor’s Regulation.

Green complained to the SCI, the Office of Legal Counsel, and the Department of Education Equality Opportunity and Diversity Management, and reported they circled wagons, dismissing his complaints, and justifying the bigotry and nepotism in D 79.

In the meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Education validated Green’s complaint and is conducting its own investigation, warning that retaliation is prohibited.

However, in retaliation, the OSI subsequently conducted three investigations against Green, including a more serious conflict of interest, which they found not to be true.

The alleged conflict of interest arose because Green attempted to write a federal proposal to obtain $2.5 million for the school to run STEM after-school programs for children.

Green believes that it is a rouge element in the DOE that is using the investigatory agencies for repression against those who speak out.

Since the DOE is now trying to recruit Black males, he finds the actions against him contradictory and plans to set a Go Fund me page to obtain legal help to fight the charges.
