Basir MChawi and Tyrene Wright bring clarity to the push for Reparations at CEMOTAP Nov. 24th Forum

When Dr. Tyrene Wright and Professor Basir MChawi tackle the still burning issue of Reparations for African Americans, they will bring critical information on where the movement is today.

The Forum will be held at the Committee to Eliminate Media Offensive to African People (CEMOTAP) Center at 135-05 Rockaway Blvd. S. Ozone Park, NY 11420 at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 24 under the title REPARATIONS YES OR NO.

“Keeping the movement alive through discussions and activism is one of the most important efforts for Black people to unite around,” said Betty Dopson, CEMOTAP co-chair.

CEMOTAP joins with others who feel that the centuries long plunder, rape, murder, laws to prevent education, housing, health care and protection for Black people must be exposed and addressed through Reparations.

The organization asserts that the feeble excuse, difficulty in determining who deserves reparations today, is ludicrous. Slavery was designed to forever assign enslaved Africans to a life of poverty and servitude. Four hundred years later the scars of enslavement are everywhere.

Prisons are disproportionally filled with Black men and women and all too often, Black children and Black families are confined to urban ghettos across the nation. Black people lead the nation in serious health issues and are generally denied equal protection under the law. Reparations could have significant impact on the injustice and inequality blocking Black progress.

Government foot-dragging has an essential role in denying Reparations for African Americans, after all, it was government officials, congressmen, governors, mayors and local legislatures who embraced and promoted slavery.

Both educators, Wright and M’Chawi are eager and fully prepared to provide information to arm the audience with the importance of maintaining and increasing the struggle for reparation.
