Marvel Comics new Brainiac, Lunella Lafayette, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur

Who says you have to have super strength to be a superhero? Not in the universe of Marvel Entertainment.

At the Women of Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the unique giant of comic books announced the coming of Lunella Lafayette, a preteen super genius who wants to change the world.

According to Marvel writers and creators, Amy Reeder (Madame Xanadu, Batwoman) and Brandon Montclare (Rocket Girl, Fear Itself: Fearsome Four), and artist Natacha Bustos (Strange Sports Stories) Lunella's character spawned into existence when the creative team realized Marvel had a limited number of characters that all ages could relate to.

In her breakout series, Lunella lives in a world where her brain power excels that of her peers—and even many adults—which, in turn, isolates her from other comic book creations in the past.

As her character learns the hard way that it takes more than just big brains to change the world around her, and, fearful of the monstrous Inhuman genes inside her, her life is turned upside down when a savage, red-scaled tyrant is teleported from the prehistoric past to a far-flung future we call today. The pair is many things, and together the most amazing Marvel Team-Up: "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur!"

Lunella joins Marvel's diverse line-up of multicultural superhero characters such as Kamala Khan (the new Ms. Marvel of Muslim descent), Sam Wilson (the new Black Captain America), Jane Foster (as Thor), and Miles Morales, the new Spiderman.

The comic is set to release its ninth issue—already winning the 2016 Glyph Award for Best Female Character—and circulating rumors and buzz of a movie adaptation with ABC's youngest "Blach-ish" star, Marsai Martin, in the starring role.

Neither Marvel nor ABC has confirmed this rumor.
