Barbara’s Golden Voice

-A +A

Where She's From:
Beautiful Barbara C. De Laleu, an Aquarius, was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised on Long Island. “The most important thing I have learned from my parents are respect for self and making bigger and smarter decisions, she tells The Black Star News.

Barbara, 23, attended St. John’s University’s Queens Campus majoring in Communication Arts with a concentration in Radio and Television and a minor in Linguistics. “I am still and will always be advancing in my career.  I never stop learning, she adds. “I am not looking to be a superstar, just to be heard and to hear the stories of others in their personal movements. She plans on completing her Master of Science and eventually a doctorate in Speech.

“I owe all of my talent, strength, and support to my loving parents Jean and Gina Delaleu, mentors DJ Chuck Dogg of Power 105.1FM NY, Luis Paco Lopez of the former Mix 102.7 FM NY, and Donna Donna of 102.3 WBAB-FM NY as well as many beloved friends who believed in my dream of radio broadcasting as much as she did, she says.

Where She’s At:
Barbara’s ambition is to become a Speech Language Pathologists and work with underprivileged African-American and Latino youth suffering from Speech impediments and problems with public speaking to improve their confidence level and prepare them for the real life.

“Being rejected when sending out demos of my voice to become an on-air personality was a challenge because I constantly want to get better and I work hard to live by the rules, which limited me to what others thought I should do, she says. “When I finally realized that there are no limits, that I can do anything, anywhere—that is why I made it to where I am today. I conquered  my challenges through just realizing that I can impact a larger audience other than just my community. I quickly learned that there is more to life than what is given to you.

Barbara has already scored several accomplishments. She been considered for an on-air position with 102.3 WBAB Rock Station on Long Island because of her talent and diverse communication skills.
