[Our Model Of The Day]

Where She’s From:
Ivy Cohen was born in Atlanta, GA and moved to Tallahassee at age four. “I have been trying think of how to get out of Tallahassee ever since,” she tells The Black Star News, with a laugh. “I have loving parents and always got their full attention. Getting them to leave me alone is the problem. My parents are awesome though. The most important thing I learn from my parents was you get blessed when you put good into the world.”

Where She’s At:
Cohen went to Sail High School and currently attends Florida A&M University. “I’ve wanted to be a model since I was 14. But I didn’t start going it professionally until I was 20,” she says.

“I want to model for major magazines like Jet and King. I don't want to do music videos because I want to be taken seriously as an actress,” Cohen adds. “I would like to do theatre, film, and television. I also want to direct and write scripts. I am writing two screenplays right now.”
“My life has been one big challenge. I honestly don't know where to begin,” she says, when asked how she surmounts obstacles. “I’m a model but don't act like a model. I wasn't the captain of my cheerleader squad, a beauty queen, or the most popular girl in school. I was never a beauty queen or the girl all the boys wanted. Yet I’m providing myself in this business.”

“Getting my first tear sheet from Quintessence Magazine and landing a DVD series called My Brother's Keeper,” were two recent achievements Cohen is proud of.

“To be a Black actress in Hollywood, you need both beauty and brainpower,” Cohen says. “I think I have a combination of both. I’m currently at a 4.0 GPA.”

So how does this brainy model and actress prepare to step out? “I use MAC makeup; it's the sexy, most professional makeup out there. Someday I'm able to afford it and Proactiv because it reserves my sexy.”
