Keenie; Exuberance & Confidence

“I am an advocate for endless reading. Everything you need to know is hidden in a book!

Our Model Of The Day

Where She’s From: Keenie Lazarus McGuire, a Scorpio, was born here in the United States to parents from Grenada. “I was raised by a single mother who taught me the importance of having self determination and being independent,” she tells The Black Star News.

Keenie graduated from Kingsborough Community College in New York with an associate’s degree in Fashion Merchandising and graduated from John Jay College with a bachelor’s degree in Forensic Psychology. She launched her modeling career last year in the summer.

“I am still learning and improving as a model,” she says. “I see my career develop
ing to an international level and I would love to move forward into television and film work as an actress.”

“The biggest challenge I faced was trying to juggle both college and my modeling,” she continues. “I really had to ask myself which was more important and since they both were equally important to me, I realized that it was okay to make space and tackle them both at the same time. As stressful as it was, it was a sacrifice work making.”

Where She’s At: “As a lover of fashion, modeling is not the only career that I am interested in pursuing,” she adds. “I have two hidden talents which are hairstyling and fashion photography. I am most proud of them because they both give me the chance to display my creative side. In June 2007, I began to network and market myself as a hairstylist and photographer. My most recent accomplishment as a model was working for Moet Hennessey as a 10 Cane Rum spokes model.”

“In the fashion industry, although beauty is a great asset to have, a model’s brainpower can propel him or her to the highest heights,” she adds. “My beauty can land me that next fashion spread but my brainpower can land me that next talk show and the chance to influence minds all over the world!”

“When it comes to clothing and shoes, there is no specific brand that I go for,” Keenie says. “I respect the fact that every designer has something special to add to the fashion world and if that article of clothing or pair of shoes grabs my eye, I’d buy it regardless of who the designer is. When it comes to skin care products, Aveeno and Neutrogena are my best friends. As for fragrances, I wear Lolita Lempicka, Burberry Weekend, and Clinique Happy Heart.”

Keenie’s Words Of Wisdom: “If you love it and you work hard for it, you can have it; but first be sure to identify and improve all your flaws to ensure optimal performance.”
Keenie’s Secrets Of Success: “Being determined to move forward has brought me to where I am today.
