Oakland’s Beautiful Andrea Gilmore

“One still has to know the basics of how to market themselves and always be open for advice, and new ideas, Andrea continues.

Our Model Of The Day

Where She’s From:
Beautiful Andrea Gilmore was born and raised in Oakland California, “The Bay, or Yay’ Area,” as she puts it. “I have lived in the same house for 22 years with my older sister and married biological parents,” she tells The Black Star News. “Not just my parents but my sister, as well, have taught me valuable lessons from how to handle hardships to dealing with personal relationship problems. Of course I am still learning.”

Andrea attended Skyline High School, a performing arts academy, in Oakland, which is where Tom Hank’s graduated from, which gave her inspiration to be the best in all aspect of performing arts. She then went to San Jose State University and studied Dance and Minored in Business. “If it wasn’t for my parents encouraging me to take up dance and pursue my dream I wouldn’t be where I am now,” she says. “I currently reside in Southern California where I am pursuing my career as an entertainer; dancing, acting, and modeling.”

Where She’s At: Andrea works with several prominent print photographers and dances at various venues for special events. This hardworker, with a uniquely gravitating appearance, has already been in several plays. “I would like to dance as a back up dancer on major tours and act in major films,” she notes.

She concedes that the industry isn’t for the faint-hearted. In order to advance her career, in her case, she had to leave her family and friends and move to Los Angeles. “Soon I was able to adapt to my
environment and get into the swing of things,” she explains. “My faith in God and passion for the arts are the only things that keep me going.”

The hardwork and sacrifice have continued to bear fruit. “I have appeared in The Game featuring Kanye West’s ‘Wouldn’t get far’music video as well as Lloyd’s ‘Get It Shorty’ music video, and Nick Cannon’s MTV ‘Short Circuit’ television series,” she notes. “I believe that the people I work with, well known or no, all have a part in my quest to become successful in this industry; no matter how small a task I’ve had to compete for them.”

“One does not have to be a Howard university graduate or simply be a brainy person to make it in this business,” Andrea adds. “To be successful in the entertainment industry, there will be things
one may have to do that will not seem logical. It’s not about knowing how to do everything, because even the smartest person will talk themselves out of doing something. In some cases one may over analyze the situation and miss his or her chance to advance. If I were to have thought twice about moving out here I, would have been regretting it for the rest of my life.”

“One still has to know the basics of how to market themselves and always be open for
advice, and new ideas,” she continues. “This is why the most beautiful people do not always make it, because they are too scared to take a chance at something new. I’m not saying one should not be smart about pursuing one’s dream, but basic communication and marketing skills along with good common sense will take one further then one may think.”

So how does she prepare to step out? “I love grooming myself with all types of name brand products,” Andrea says. “I love Vera Wang Princess perfume; its sweet smell makes me feel free and light. When it comes to clothes and shoes I don’t really have a preference, just as long as they are cute. My favorite everyday lotion is St. Ives and my ultimate body butter is Mango from Body Works. I like to use prescriptive foundation and powder for light coverage, but for full coverage I use Mac concealer and studio fix.”
