Where She’s From: Ki’Yena Boyd was born in South Dakota. At age four, once her father retired from the military, she moved to Columbia, SC, where she was raised.

“I am a biracial, she tells The Black Star News. “My mother is Hispanic and my father is Black—being part of two different cultures has helped mold me into a more accepting, understanding, and open minded individual which has help me advance far in life.

Her father, Frank R. Boyd III is a well-known photographer in Columbia having worked in the field for the past 30 years. The younger Boyd benefited by having been one of her father’s modeling subjects, even as a child. “At the age of six I was featured in my first commercial for Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC, she recalls. “This sparked my interest in being in the entertainment industry.

She was 13 when she joined her first modeling agency, Millie Lewis, and two years later, she joined Shaw Model and Talent Agency. “With these two agencies I got the opportunity to be in many fashion shows, modeling conventions, and print works, she recalls. Still, at the time, she was concentrating more on graduation than on her career. She was Second Runner up, Miss Freshmen 2001, First Runner Up Miss Sophomore 2002, and Miss Junior 2003. In 2004, Boyd was featured in her second commercial for Coca Cola.

Where She’s At: Boyd is currently a third-year Communications Major at the College of Charleston. “I am an independent agent under my father’s manager, she says. “I am very involved on my campus with my sorority and other numerous organizations and also a part of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Her modeling career continues to grow and she recently was voted as one of Geechee One Magazine’s 2007 Beautiful Women and will be featured in the 2007 Calendar and the December 2006, issue.

She also has a budding career in communications—she’s co-host of the magazine’s talk show in Charleston, SC. “I have worked with many wonderful people including photographers Russell Adair and Jason Cordes who are Nationally known for their work, she adds. “My goal is to continue to build my portfolio and expand my knowledge in the field so I can be a leading force not only in the modeling industry but the entertainment industry as a whole.

Boyd’s Words Of Wisdom: “Be true to yourself. Know yourself first, and then
you will be able to accomplish anything. Never let anyone take your shine
away, and if they are able, you are not at peace with yourself…

Boyd’s Secrets to Success: “Find your motivation. Find that thing that keeps a
smile on your face and warmth in your heart and run with it. If it’s your
passion regardless of what others think as long as you’re a driven and
determined to make the best of it, it will be the best.
