Virginia’s Own Ms. Cherry

Ms. Cherry: “I didn’t know where to start when it came to modeling, but I took off running in every direction I could find.� She’s been running in the right direction.

Where She’s From: Born and raised in Pittsburgh, on August 4 1982, this Polish and African American beauty now resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia. “Pittsburgh is a rough place to live and there’s not much of an opportunity there,� Cherry tells The Black Star News. “My home now is Virginia. It’s a great place for development, and I’ve really grown into my career here.�

After dancing for over 15 years Cherry decided to pursue other ventures and embarked on modeling. Not knowing where to start, she went to a casting she heard about on the radio for a DTLR’s 2006 calendar. After a six-city wide casting Cherry got “the call� letting her know that she was selected. “This was my first photo shoot and publication,� she recalls. “Since then I’ve been busy traveling the country in my pursuit of recognition. I didn’t know where to start when it came to modeling, but I took off running in every direction I could find.� She’s been running in the right direction.

 

Where She’s At: Within the past year she’s worked with 27 photographers, appeared in a number of local fashion shows with Azzure, Indigo, and Denim Xchange. She’s had three major music videos including with Diddy, Pharrell, and Chelo. “It’s been a great first year, and now I’m just staying focused and open minded about everything.� This, most assuredly, is just the beginning for this rising star. 

 

Where She’s Heading:  “I’m very superstition and don’t like to speak about things that haven’t happened yet,� Virginia’s beauty cautions. “But I can say that I have a lot of good things happening for me now.� If you’re at a newsstand in the near future, make sure to pick up Bump Magazine’s Premiere Issue for more about Cherry—And she’ll be in heavy rotation on BET and MTV.
