On Tuesday, May 17, 2022 the Harlem Film Company (HFC) will present a theatrical red carpet premiere of The Patterson: Another Bronx Tale, held at the historic Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

This documentary tells the story of the Patterson Projects in the South Bronx by the people who lived there for over seven decades. Featuring interviews from long-term residents, archival footage and recent developments, the film tracks the punctured hope of the American Dream, spanning from the housing project’s beginnings in the 1940s through the continued fight for safety and dignity in the community today.

Trailer: The Patterson

The film features Hall of Fame NBA star Tiny Archibald, one of the 50 best players in the NBA, and Bahati Adrian Best, Director and former Patterson Housing resident. Bahati Best is a veteran network cameraman with 40 years of experience.

"For over twenty years I called the Patterson Houses my home. From those early years in the 1950s to the present, I’ve watched it change not necessarily for the better. Those changes are shared by other public housing facilities all over this country but this is our story. This is The Patterson: Another Bronx Tale."- Bahati Adrian E. Best, director.

This insightful evening features a talkback and VIP reception. Panelists include the film's director Bahati Adrian Best, and other notables.

A portion of proceeds from this red carpet affair will benefit Guns Down, Life Up, The Knowledge House, and a scholarship for youth in The Patterson housing complex.

Guns Down, Life Up (GDLU) is an initiative that brings together public health experts and community leaders around New York City to stop the cycle of gun violence. Using a community-centered public health approach, GDLU engages partners across all boroughs and mentorship, to prevent and interrupt violence and empower youth to fulfill their potential by leading safer, healthier lives.

The Knowledge House, located in the South Bronx, empowers and sustains a talent pipeline of technologists, entrepreneurs, and digital leaders, who will uplift their communities out of poverty. This social change organization educates young people and empowers them with the technology and workplace skills needed to launch successful careers in the technology industry.

The Patterson College Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a young college student from the Patterson housing development each year.

The event is produced by Moikgantsi Kgama, founder of ImageNation Film Festival, Inc.

“This historic movie needs to be shown all over the country. It highlights the lost potential of public housing, better than any documentary I have ever seen.” -- Professor Mark Naison, Fordham University
