Award-Winning Film “Ben & Ara” Screens at NYC & LA Film Festivals

On October 22nd, award-winning film ‘Ben & Ara’ will screen at the 19th Annual Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival and Lecture Series in New York:

“Ben & Ara” tells the story of a Muslim woman and an agnostic man who fall in love but are challenged by conflicting philosophical and cultural differences.

The film has been screened at over 50 international film festivals and has won over 20 awards including the prestigious African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) which took place in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The film is also the recipient of the Best Narrative Feature Award from the Reel Sisters Film Festival.

“Ben & Ara” stars Joseph Baird (King Cobra), Constance Ejuma (Proof), Q’Orianka Kilcher (The New World), Akuyoe Graham (American Pie), Michael Chieffo (LA Confidential) and William Mark McCullough (Mercy Street). Founded in 1997 by African Voices Magazine and LIU Brooklyn, Reel Sisters is the first Brooklyn-based festival devoted to female filmmakers of color and has enriched the city with more than 900 films by women of African, Caribbean, Latino, Asian, Indian, and Native American descent.
