Jamal Trulove's important documentary about the 1972 USC Trojan Football team is slated for release next year.

The name, Jamal Trulove, should ring a bell as one of the stars A24's critically lauded hit, "The Last Black Man in San Francisco," and one of the few breakout stars this year in film.

But it's his nonstop activism, creation of socially conscious tv and move projects and relentless immersion into issues which affect the underserved which you will find riveting. Trulove, known for winning a landmark $13.1 million lawsuit for wrongful incarceration against the City of San Francisco, has partnered with Eterne Films and Steve Riach on the fascinating story of the team considered to be the greatest in the history of college football.

Currently in production for a fall 2021 release, "Black and White: The Greatest Team That Almost Never Was," chronicling the rise of 1972 USC Trojans, will be told through the lens of surviving players and coaches, opponents, historians and outside observers, and archival footage never seen before.

The feature documentary revisits the cultural landscape of the late 1960s and '70s and the fracturing that existed amidst the continuing Civil Rights movement in a racially, philosophically and politically divided country. But in Los Angeles, one coach, USC's John McKay, was ahead of his time and began recruiting Black players from the moment he arrived at the university in the tumultuous '60s. The documentary tells the story of the 1972 team which became historic on the field and changed the face of college football forever when the undefeated USC Trojan Football Team becoming a model for today’s college football and the impetus for the burgeoning landscape of fully integrated college sports.

Trulove also heads Tru Narrativ, a Los Angeles based creative content and production company with offices in San Francisco, along with manager and producer Sentwali Holder. Together they are in development on a 13-part tv docuseries on Jamal's amazing wrongful incarceration as well as his precedent-setting judicial victory against the City of San Francisco, a 10year battle in which they accused him of murder. Jamal is deeply involved in a number of social justice issues including bettering the lives of his fellow Oakland/San Francisco community, the Innocence Project and is outspoken on the racial tensions escalating in the past week.
