As an independent film company we rely on word of mouth for folks to learn about our films. Spread the word on social media for your chance to win a pair of tickets to see Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool in NYC opening weekend.

Here is what the press is saying about Stanley Nelson’s MILES DAVIS: BIRTH OF THE COOL:

Variety says, “Stanley Nelson’s superbly crafted documentary taps deep into the mystique of Miles Davis: his sound, stardom, and cult of personality.”

Rolling Stone says, “Stanley Nelson’s essential Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool lays out the complicated personal history and gamechanging musical revolutions of the jazz legend, and admirably tries to cover it all into a two-hour feature.”

Black Girl Nerds says, “Nelson gives audiences an intimate look at one of the coolest icons in American history. This documentary is called Birth of the Cool but ends up being a look at the good, bad, and ugly parts that compelled the man to create the cool. Where previous books and films made Miles Davis look like a magical character, Nelson’s depicts him as what he was — a man who was driven by his art and chained by the racist society he was born into. This is the look at our icons that we should be getting these days.”

And filmaker Stanley Nelson says, “The reason to watch Miles Davis on the big screen however—besides outstanding picture editing and section headings in which an entire year of pop culture is collapsed into seconds by editor Yusuf Kapadia—is the glorious score made of wall-to-wall Davis music. Editor Erskine thankfully lets entire tracks play out across successive sequences—not chopping them up in service of the picture—which lends emotional and narrative cohesion.”
